Climate change is expected to displace tens of millions of people in the United States over the next three decades. From record-breaking heat waves to severe hurricanes, wildfires, and flooding, devastating weather events are increasingly hitting communities across the nation, impacting how and where people can live. Cities around the country are facing shifts in population and are often unprepared to manage emerging needs and provide support to their most vulnerable community members.
Our first discussion, Navigating Population Change from Climate Displacement, was on October 17th. As cities experience significant population changes, services, jobs, and housing are needed for large groups of new residents while mitigation measures and asset management become more critical to sustaining livable communities. Diving into these and other challenges, this conversation featured leaders on the forefront of climate resilience and innovation whose programs and initiatives will equip you with learnings to take back to your own jurisdiction.
We had engaging dialogue with our experienced and insightful panelists:
Dave Reid, Director of the County of Santa Cruz Office of Response, Recovery, and Resilience
Dr. Galen Treuer, Manager of the Climate Tech and Economic Innovation Office for Miami-Dade County
